It's Rio Ferdinand's turn to point out Ten Hag's mistake against Newcastle

Former MU midfielder Rio Ferdinand thinks that coach Erik ten Hag made a mistake when he did not let midfielder Fred play from the beginning in the 0-2 defeat against Newcastle.

In the trip to Newcastle in the 29th round of the Premier League, coach Erik ten Hag used Scott McTominay, Marcel Sabitzer and Bruno Fernandes in midfield. McTominay scored 4 goals in 2 games for Scotland in Euro 2024 qualifying and started, while Sabitzer has just recovered from injury but still started the game.

Fred sat on the bench against Newcastle

Witnessing that Fred was not started against Newcastle, former MU midfielder Rio Ferdinand was surprised, he said: " I was really shocked to see that Fred was not on the starting list. He has energy, clever feet, endurance. Those are the qualities needed for this game."

"Newcastle has good contentious midfielders, and I think MU needs Fred's strength to create balance. I think leaving Fred on the bench is an unreasonable decision. United's midfield was strangled, everyone saw that."

In the match against Newcastle, McTominay did not play too well. The player born in 1996, despite having a good body, often loses in disputed situations, he also misses a lot of passes. Meanwhile Sabitzer and Bruno also played very badly.

It wasn't until the 82nd minute that Fred was brought on to replace McTominay, a little time was not enough for the Brazilian player to make a difference. MU did not play well in this match and had to lose with a score of 0-2. With this result, they lost 3rd place to the opponent.
